House Hunting in Tennessee

This past weekend I had the pleasure to join my boyfriend on a road trip to Tennessee for his birthday. We had to wait until after he got off work on Friday in order to set off, but we made the short trip worthwhile! After a long six hour drive with just a few short stops, we finally arrived at his parents house around 11:30 p.m.! It was so great to see them again since our very brief meeting from Thanksgiving. His parents are the sweetest people I’ve ever met, and I love going to see them whenever we are able.

However, although it was Drew’s birthday, we were also visiting for a different reason. For quite some time now, Drew has been planning to move down to Tennessee and has been looking at houses online. I don’t graduate until May, but I plan on moving down there as well once I graduate! The last time we went down there was to see some houses, but it was a very spur of the moment thing and kind of haphazardly put together. But this time he was actually able to plan out some house tours with his realtor and it was much smoother. With eight houses to see, we had a packed day ahead of us.

The first house we saw was OK, nothing too great but also nothing to hate either. It was just mediocre. The second house was nicely laid out, with a cute little backyard and an adorable sitting sunroom with one of those big bay windows that had a seat with cushions in it! But the third house was honestly amazing. It is nothing great from the outside, but the second that door opened it felt like a home. With gorgeous wood floors in the living room, warm lighting, an adorable kitchen with a shutter window above the sink, finished basement, fenced in yard for the dog, office space upstairs, a nice big master bedroom and walk-in closet, it was perfect. This house had everything we were looking for. Every single house after this one just could not compare. There was maybe one runner up but nothing was topping this house. We weren’t expecting to find the one this weekend, we truly just wanted to try to find houses we liked in order to get an idea of what to look for in the future. But oh boy, did this change everything. We are a little short on money, as like I said this wasn’t the plan, so it’s a gamble to see how long we can wait until someone else tries to grab this house.

  1. That sounds so fun! house hunting reminds me of all the HGTV I would watch with my mom growing up. I really hope you end up getting your dream house and everything works out! The wood floors in those pictures really are gorgeous.

  2. That looks awesome! Ironically, I can totally relate to what you're going through. My girlfriend just accepted a full-time job in Nashville, Tennessee, starting after she graduates this year, while I don’t graduate until next year. This has sparked a lot of conversations between us about various aspects of living together there!
