Social Media Marketing Strategy and Advertising
Chapter 3 really goes into depth with the entirety of social media marketing and advertising, the strategy behind it, and the process you’d have to go through in order to create an effective social media advertisement. Section 13 really gives a nice summary of this chapter, and how to create a nice social media ad.
Throughout reading this chapter I can definitely say that I’ve seen pretty much all of this from a consumer perspective, and have experienced many of these ads myself. However annoying they may be, some of them have definitely been very convincing and I have fallen victim to them. Here’s one of my most recent purchases, that I then proceeded to buy two more of cause I just ended up liking it that much.
Although, I did want to point out that I think some of these things in the strategy the chapter talks about may be changing. Especially “targeting people who follow their page already.” I only feel like this is changing slightly, due to the fact that things like the “TikTok algorithm” have come into play. Bringing forward ads that it thinks you may like based off of other videos or posts you’ve liked before, not because you’re already following them. Or maybe that's just how it’s always been with most websites and apps and I never noticed. However, this algorithm is definitely getting annoying. I feel like it used to not be as bad a few months ago, but I’ve noticed recently with TikTok specifically that I will like ONE video of something that has a product in it and then boom; now I get like five videos of that same product within the next ten minutes.
I can’t say the same for Instagram, and I’m not on it enough to really notice and I don’t usually buy anything off of there either. This is the same for Facebook. Although Facebook is just creepy, I can’t talk around my phone without opening up Facebook and finding ads for things that I had just spoken about with my friends. That’s probably one of the only things about social media ads that I would change, besides the frequency of them. I just don’t want to be reminded that everything I say and do is being watched or listened to. Is that too much to ask?
