Maybe I Should Be Utilizing Facebook Marketing?

I did not know this about Facebook, but apparently it is a really good marketing tool! As I have been going throughout my photography journey, I keep thinking that maybe I could utilize my hobby as a small side gig for myself. The only issue with that is I’m going to need to build my audience, and try to market myself towards potential clients who may be interested in my photography. I’ve already done the usual, inviting my friends, family, and following pages of thought leaders that I enjoy. Not only that, but I think I’m beginning to get the hang of how I should be posting my content towards those who may like what I’m doing.

My next step then should be to utilize Facebook’s advertising. With an audience of over 2.19 billion people (about 41% of the world’s total population) this should help me quite a bit once I get the ball rolling. Not only that, but it is currently the most popular social media advertising platform. Around 93% of all marketers use Facebook advertising regularly, with Instagram being the next closest at 24%. Facebook is popular with marketers for a reason. For one, you can go through and pick out specific demographics that you’d like to advertise to. Things like locations, age, gender, language, and interests. This would definitely be helpful for me as I could pick out certain things to target people who are maybe around my age, also interested in photography, and for them to be relatively close to me. I know not many people are willing to travel long distances for photography sessions unless the photographer is really well known for their work.

I may not be utilizing this advertising technique just yet, only because I currently do not have the time to go out and do photoshoots like I normally would. I honestly haven’t even set up a business account with Facebook yet either. However, with all the many different tools and ways to go about creating an advertisement through Facebook, I will definitely be keeping this in my back pocket for later. With that being said, if anyone would like to book a (free) session with me come spring semester you should definitely message me through my Instagram at s.mckenzie.photos! I would love the chance to practice and build my portfolio more, I don’t get to do as many portraits as I would like to.
