Ch12 Reaction
As I'm reading chapter 12 I found the podcast section really interesting. I found it interesting because I have definitely seen a huge growth in podcasts throughout social media these past few years. Even one of my oldest friends from back home has recently started her own podcast a couple weeks ago. And the chapter goes on to show that there are over 5 million active podcasts shows out there today. That number is probably still growing, too.
Personally, I'm glad that's the case. I feel as though lately, since the start of TikTok, there has been a huge decrease in attention spans. But these podcasts are showing that maybe people's attention spans aren't decreasing as much as I think they are. Chapter 12 states, "Podcasts are considered 'sticky content,' or content that holds consumers attention for a longer time period, with 80% listening to most of an episode or all of it." From personal experience, most podcasts I've seen are usually around the 45 minute to an hour mark.
One of my favorite podcasts is the Broski Report, by Brittany Broski. Brittany's podcasts really consist of anything and everything that is either on her mind, things she's been doing, or whatever is currently happing in her personal life. The way she talks and expresses things feels like I'm just hanging out with a friend and talking about life. I've heard her talk about how she's done interviews at movie premiers, things she's interested in, books she's read, music she listens to, shows she watches, literally everything. Although her rants about these things may be small or fleeting, they still open my eyes to new things, new music, new books to read, and I really enjoy it.
Here's one of her semi recent episodes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfUewrD5qiI
I also just wanted to add that I 100% mean what I say when I say that she is very all over the place. If you do not have a mind that bounces all over the place like I do, this podcast may not be the best thing to watch. But she is pretty funny!
